Like many beloved small businesses, The Little Bee began at the kitchen table. Over 20 years ago, founder Ruth Wilkerson struggled to find high-quality beeswax candles for her home. She decided to make her own, and though her first efforts weren’t perfect, the timeless beauty of beeswax kept calling her back.
Through research, trial and error, and encouragement from family, Ruth refined her craft. A local boutique became her first customer, and before long, one shop turned into five, and then many more. A request for “a little sparkle” led to years of experimentation and ultimately to their proprietary method for creating the signature Glint Collection, candles with a subtle, captivating shimmer.
Growing with Purpose
From a small rented room under the bluffs to a beautifully appointed chandlery, La Petite Abeille has grown slowly and purposefully, always prioritizing quality over quantity. Their products now top tables in books, wedding features, and the world’s most respected design magazines. Still, each candle carries the same personal care and reverence for tradition that began at a single kitchen table.
