200 Years of Heritage & Legacy: Vicksburg's Upcoming Bicentennial

On Monday, July 29th Vicksburg’s Bicentennial Committee hosted a press conference to unveil the newest addition to Washington Street Park in celebration of the city’s upcoming bicentennial celebration! The milestone marking celebration will kick off on January 29th, 2025, which marks the official 200th anniversary of Vicksburgs Incorporation.

During the press conference, Laura Beth Strickland of the Vicksburg Convention and Visitors Bureau announced the bicentennial year will be commemorated through a year-long celebration, with 5 distinct and remarkable events planned throughout the year for the community to enjoy! Bicentennial Kickoff Press Conference

9:00 am at Washington Street Park
City and civic leaders and members of the media are invited to witness the unveiling of a commemorative public installation along with a schedule of five cornerstone bicentennial events, happening throughout 2025. Remarks will be given by Mayor George Flaggs, Jr. and Executive Director of Visit Vicksburg, Laura Beth Strickland.

200th Anniversary of Vicksburg Incorporation

January 29, 2025 marks 200 years from the incorporation of the City of Vicksburg on January 29, 1825. We will celebrate this historic day with a series of smaller happenings leading up to the 29th. More details to come soon.

Music & Culture Festival

The Fourth Annual April cultural celebration (formerly Arts & Music Festival) will showcase the local and regional music many Vicksburgers already know and love, but we’ll also highlight cultural aspects of the Delta that may be a little less familiar. Think dancing, theater, demonstrations, and more. The Festival will continue to partner with the Alcorn State University Jazz Festival, and we’ll add some special celebratory surprises!

Independence Weekend

Vicksburg is already known for hosting the longest fireworks show in the State of Mississippi every year on the Fourth of July, but for our Bicentennial year, we plan on making it bigger and better than ever!

Fall Family Fair

We invite all current and past Vicksburgers to assemble in their beloved city for a Fall Fair and Vicksburg Homecoming! There will be games, music, and even some unexpected fun for the entire family, all generations and walks of life.

We are closing out Vicksburg Bicentennial year with a New Year’s Eve celebration that’s not to be missed. We will reminisce on what’s hopefully a memorable year for all while looking to the future to recognize What’s Next.
